![]() So the amps onstage were live, even if they weren't mic'ed. I could also see there was a plexi baffle on the left of the amps between them and the drum riser. During "Exit" I could hear guitar feedback and then the cameras caught up with The Edge and he had his Les Paul buried into the AC30. Once they got into playing The Joshua Tree and The Edge went back to the main stage (there was an in-audience stage again like the previous handful of tours) The Edge was plugged into his board (no wireless.he was definitely on wireless for the 2nd stage songs). No monitors, no amps, nothing else onstage except those two combos. ![]() It seemed weird to me that they'd be onstage as props, especially considering how clean the stage is. I wasn't close enough last night to get really good pictures, but I could clearly see the AC30 and tweed Deluxe onstage for The Edge, both unmic'ed. Low lights were the stage set up (Larry Mullen had to do about a 40 second walk down the stage to his drum kit to start the show?), inconsistent sound from song to song, inconsistent lighting (Bono was in the dark while signing on the "island stage" at several points) and several of the video backing tracks- in many cases the tracks looked like they could have easily come from previous Depeche Mode tours.the juxtaposition of Anton Corbijn videos of an attractive woman in tight jeans and a star spangled bikini top twirling a lasso was followed a few songs later by a Andy Wharhol looking montage of great women of the century (Rosa Parks, Angela Davis, and Lena Dunham?) followed by a giant banner being passed around of a Syrian woman wearing a headscarf left me scratching my head a bit. Highlights for me were New Years day (the Les Paul gave the song just a touch more aggression which worked perfectly), Bullet the Blue Sky (which was a more stripped down, raw, and noisy version than I'd heard them do), and Elevation (which was played with such power that Bono turned to the band at the end and said something like "oh my gosh that was good"). I thought The Edge's live guitar sounds (with the exception of the songs he played with the Explorer) was the best that I've heard. The four band members needed (to misquote The Martian) "to Musician the sh*t" out of the show to make up for the shaky production and boy did they ever.
